I
started to raise horses in 1973, when. I was no more than a child
our farm manager, at that time, Fiorenzo Bettini who was a truly i
wanderful person helped me in those very early days when. I first
started to work whit haflinger horses soon after that thanks to
the very special friendship with Doctor Berner and Primaldo
Ballerini. I began to breed my first Quarter horses.
The
breeding programme at Il Terraio is essentially based on the cross
between our stallion Sir Jac Frost and selected mares that have
already proven to be valid brood mares. Each one of them has in
fact already been crossed with Sir Jac Frost and the results to
date are excellent reining prospects.Sir Jac Frost, by Hollywood
Jac 86 and out of Majestic Memory, was born to Sally Brown at Fox
Medows Farm, in Maple Plain, Minnesota. First ridden in
competition by Brian Welman (then under the ownership of the Wood
family) the stallion was then taken on by Tim McQuay.
Upon
arrival in Italy he was shown in 1991 and 1992 by Marco Manzi in
all the major Italian and European open events.Sir Jac Frost also
was chosen 3 times to represent the Italian Reining Team in
international championships – in 1990 at the St Paul Derby, in
Portogruaro in 1991 and at the American Championships in Germany
in 1992. He was Individual Champion in 1991 and 1992 Reserve
Champion. Recently we took the decision within our breeding
programme to start to keep selected mares that have proven to be
good competition subjects with a view to using them in the future
as brood mares to a new stallion.
We
were among the first pioneer in the world of reining in Italy
In
1989 and 1990 we rapresented Italy in the KLM International Cup at
St paul Derby in Minnesota. In 1989 we were 3rd behind the United
States and Canada.
